Color, Sepia and.... Sketch?
Got a funny email over the weekend from a guy who "borrows" copywritten photos for "inspiration" and then possibly makes money from them on his website. The photo he borrowed happens to be one I won an award for over at BetterPhoto.com. Anyways, wanted to get opinions related to that particular photo... Do you like the photo in color, in sepia or as a sketch better? If some people like the sketched version, I just may contact him to see if he will sub contract for me and I can offer that service to my clients. If nobody likes the sepia version, I may stop spending so much time doing custom black and white/sepia conversions.

I love the color photo because of the great contrast between the skin tones and green grass. For me, sepia photos are good for artwork, but don't capture the life of a picture. That's just me though.
I always think it's a shame to have kids in bw/sepia because their youthful color is one of the striking things about children. Of course, I'm a bit of a hypocrite on that point since I just posted a picture of my daughter that has the color drained from it!
Great photos either way!
(I found your link through my SIL--Sarah Stout.)
It really depends on the photo and the emotion the artist is trying to capture and share. I prefer sepia over B/W with kids because sepia (like kids) is warm (happy) and ageless (full of life), but I've seen a lot of stunning B/W photos. This particular photo is beautiful in color, good contrast like Steph said, but I also really like the sepia and can imagine it framed on my wall! If they were my babies, though, I would choose the color print, it says more. I have seen sketch photos I liked but this one I don't care for, it doesn't have enough in it, and it's unfortunately next to the original; can't compare.
Great work Josh! Have fun capturing life!
Didn't expect a comment from me, huh?
