Due to a huge project I have undertaken, I'm taking a few months off of photography. I'm looking forward to February and more photo shoots. Please contact me soon about your 2009 photography needs. Despite my short sabbatical from photography due to a large project I have undertaken, things are still moving forward in my quest for world domination. I am proud to have one of my photos published in The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children by Jim Miotke.

It gives a bit of extra specialness that the photo happened to be of my three girls.

Kristi and I had fun photographing this senior. Shy and a bit reserved like most seniors, but also obvious that the head on this kid's shoulders could one day take over the world, turn the course of history, or pretty much do anything he set his mind to.

Downtown Portland park family photography

Last Saturday my lovely assistant (my beautiful wife) and I had the privilege of photographing this family of five. This park is ADORED by the kids and they had so much fun playing in and around the water fountain. I ended up getting my shoes wet as well.

Yes, if you play with fire, you get burned. If you do photoshoots with a naked baby, you get pee or poop. Ideally just a little pee. In this case, a lot of poop all over the photo backdrop. So worth it though. She is beautiful!!! Was very thankful for great window light from two walls in their dining room. I love my new niece!

I am in love with these photos... Can't wait to put them up on my online portfolios. I don't mention this enough, my wife is an incredible assistant to me while on photoshoots. Fortunately she is able to come much more than I had assumed would be possible. Perhaps I'll have to change my business name to josh and kristi photogrphy,

Can a portrait company make it by just using the photographers name? Is a catchy name needed? If it's not up to par or doesn't cut it, please feel free to share any ideas you might have for a great company name!

I will often use duotones in Photoshop to get a sepia look... this time I used a tritone. Am I too biased with my own kids when thinking this is one of the cutest photos in the world? Yeah, the black background is lame, I'll admit that. But look at those pigtails!

Color, Sepia and.... Sketch?

Got a funny email over the weekend from a guy who "borrows" copywritten photos for "inspiration" and then possibly makes money from them on his website. The photo he borrowed happens to be one I won an award for over at BetterPhoto.com. Anyways, wanted to get opinions related to that particular photo... Do you like the photo in color, in sepia or as a sketch better? If some people like the sketched version, I just may contact him to see if he will sub contract for me and I can offer that service to my clients. If nobody likes the sepia version, I may stop spending so much time doing custom black and white/sepia conversions.

Mom takes one for the photographer

Yup, if you are a good baby photographer, you will have the mom hold the baby for a specified amount of time after the diaper comes off. I can't say I didn't get any pee on me, but I can say I didn't get the majority of it:) I'm kidding about purposefully trying to have the mother take the bullet... But from now on I know when not to hold the baby!

It's incredible to photograph friends from the past. In this case, I played basketball at Barlow with the dad back in our days. Turns out his parents had a great photo location next to the Sandy River in Sandy, Oregon. Yeah, it was freezing cold and threatening to rain, but hey, we needed to get Christmas photos! And they had some cute daughters. The twin girls area little older than our triplets.

Here's a recent shoot Kristi and I did over the weekend. Six kids under the age of 5! Challenge? Yes. Fun? Definitely. Photos in a horse arena on best photogenic bench ever... Awesome!

Color... almost... gone

Sometimes weather doesn't always cooperate for a photographer who shoots primarily outside. Finding the last color of the season, along with finding weather that will allow for shoots is not always easy. Luckily, my new reflector is helping me when the sun is higher and more intense than I would prefer. Lucky also that Red Sunset Park in Gresham, Oregon has color for most of October. Thank you S for letting me photograph your beautiful family!
